A bedtime routine only works if somebody tells you when to start it. This does the boring arithmetic: give it the time your alarm goes off and a couple of lists, and it works out your bedtime, the moment the routine should begin, and a timed plan for the first half of it.
It is aimed at students with a 9am lecture and a phone habit that runs to 1am, at anyone who wants a wind-down that is more than “lie down earlier”, and at people who keep skipping the routine because they never know how long it takes. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is saved.
Build a personalized bedtime routine that helps you fall asleep faster and sleep better.
How the builder works
Three fields. Wake time, set to 07:00 to start. Wind-down activities, one per line, things like a warm shower, reading, stretching or writing tomorrow’s list. Relaxation techniques, one per line, things like deep breathing or a body scan. Press Build Routine and it gives you three times plus two lists.
The bedtime is always wake time minus eight hours. That is not a calculation about you, it is a fixed assumption, so a 07:00 alarm gives 23:00 every single time. The routine start is bedtime minus the total length of your lists, and the lengths are fixed too: each wind-down activity is worth 15 minutes and each relaxation technique is worth 10.
Wind-down activities come back as a timeline, with each one stamped 15 minutes after the last. Relaxation techniques come back as a plain list underneath, with no times attached, and a closing note that says stick to it for at least two weeks.
A worked example
Wake time 07:00, so bedtime is 23:00. Four wind-down lines – shower, read, stretch, write the to-do list – take 15 minutes each, so 60. Two relaxation lines are 10 each, so 20. Together that is 80 minutes, and 23:00 minus 80 minutes puts the routine start at 21:40.
The timeline then runs 21:40, 21:55, 22:10, 22:25 for the four activities, the last one finishing at 22:40, and the 20 minutes of relaxation fill exactly the gap to a 23:00 bedtime. The two lists always fit, because the start time was derived from them.
Change the alarm to 06:30 and bedtime moves to 22:30. Three activities plus one relaxation technique is 55 minutes, which puts the start at 21:35, with activities at 21:35, 21:50 and 22:05, finishing 22:20, and the last 10 minutes before bed left for breathing. Drop both lists and the routine start simply equals bedtime, with no timeline at all.
Honest caveats
- Eight hours is a round number, not a measurement. If you need seven or nine, the bedtime the tool gives you is wrong for you and you should shift it yourself before trusting the rest of the plan.
- The 15 and 10 minute blocks are baked in. A 45 minute bath and a 3 minute stretch both get the same slot, so use the timeline as a shape rather than a schedule you have to obey to the minute.
- It assumes you start tonight. The times are clock times for this evening’s date, not a recurring plan, and nothing carries over to tomorrow.
- A wake time in the small hours reads oddly: 01:00 gives a 17:00 bedtime because the tool works on clock arithmetic and has no idea about dates. It is working correctly, it is just a night shift schedule that looks strange on paper.
- Nothing is stored, and Reset puts the alarm back to 07:00 and empties both boxes.
If you have been lying awake for months despite a good routine, that is a sleep problem rather than a scheduling problem, and a doctor beats any list of activities. The two week note in the results is the tool’s own honest estimate, not a guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
Where does the eight hour bedtime come from?
It is hardcoded as wake time minus eight hours. There is no field for how long you actually sleep, so treat the bedtime as a starting point and move it yourself if you know you need a different amount.
How long should each activity take?
The tool allows 15 minutes for every wind-down activity and 10 for every relaxation technique. If your list is longer than the time you have, cut the list rather than squeezing the slots, otherwise the routine start walks backwards into dinner.
What if I leave the lists empty?
It still gives you a bedtime and a wake time. The routine start simply equals the bedtime, and no timeline is drawn, because there is nothing to schedule.
Does it save my routine?
No. It runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing, so a refresh empties the fields and clears the result. Rebuild it tomorrow if you want to compare two different evenings.
Can I use it for a night shift?
You can, and the maths holds, but the times will look strange because the bedtime is drawn on today’s date using clock arithmetic. Read the times as clock times rather than a calendar plan.
