Target GPA Calculator

Find out what GPA you need in your upcoming courses to reach a target cumulative GPA. If you already know your current GPA and credits, this tool does the math in seconds.

Tell us where you are now, where you want your cumulative GPA to be, and how many credits you have left this term. We’ll tell you the GPA you need to earn.

Tip: find your current cumulative GPA with the cumulative GPA calculator.

How the required GPA is calculated

The number you need is the term GPA that, blended with your current GPA, lands exactly on your target:

Required GPA = (target GPA × total credits − current GPA × current credits) ÷ future credits

For example, with a 3.1 GPA over 60 credits, 15 credits left this term, and a target of 3.3:

(3.3 × 75 − 3.1 × 60) ÷ 15 = 4.1

So you would need a 4.1 this term — slightly above a standard 4.0 scale, which means you may need a weighted-grade advantage or more credits to make that target realistic.

When a target is impossible

If your target requires a term GPA above the top of your grading scale, the calculator tells you so. The usual ways to still reach your goal are to add more credits, extend the timeline across more terms, or aim for a slightly lower target.
